Product Rendering — Hero Images and 360 Turn-Table
Hero Product Rendering and 360 Turn-Table Animation
The product rendering process ideally starts with the CAD models of the product. STP files tend to be an overall solid option for converting native CAD models and assemblies into a more universal file for import into the rendering software error free. The usage of a CAD format will keep the curves and surface data which ensure surface and product design integrity. There are times where CAD is not available or provided, but modeling of the product can be done to prepare for product rendering. Universal 3D formats once converted using .USD and/or .FBX files allow for import into most of the 3D software packages for rendering.
The creation of a 3D scene from the CAD file serves as a means of the "Virtual Photography" option for both product rendering as well as Lifestyle Imagery, but most importantly to provide a 24 frame loop-able turn-table animation for retailers who require product 360 turn-tables. The struggles on set of lighting certain shinier products makes the setup process too time consuming with a live shoot with stage setup and potential editorial cleanup and paint-outs in post. The CG option for product rendering allows for maximum control of the lighting and materials as well as the look in the post process for delivery. This also includes many more products to be transacted at a time, if there are variations of product offerings, or if there are certain needs specific to images including cutaway and technical rendering to show how the product functions.
Delivery of these files are able to be rendered as large as needed for the trade show booth images or large print formats. The master files are also kept in a Digital Asset Manager for usage as a base image for overlay graphics and graphics design layouts for both digital and print.
